From The Pastor...

Welcome to St. Paul of the Cross Parish Website!

For those who are just viewing our site, please consider this a warm invitation to come and visit our Church and our parish grounds.  As you can see in the photo, we have a beautiful and peace-filled Grotto dedicated to Our Lady, where you are welcome to come and pray.  We also invite you to spend time with Our Lord in prayer in our Adoration Chapel, which is open 7 days a week during office hours.  We hope that your participation in our liturgies will help to enrich your spiritual life; please see our home page for the Mass schedule.

For those who are parishioners, or who are contemplating joining our parish, we want you to know that we treasure each and every individual as a gift from God.  As such, every parishioner is uniquely important to the functioning of the parish and to its ability to be the best Christian faith community possible.  I encourage you to unite spiritually and socially with our fellow parishioners through one of our many ministries (listed in the Ministries section).

If you have any needs or questions, spiritual or otherwise, please do not hesitate to call upon us…let us know how you are and how we can help you.

In the Peace of Our Lord,

Rev. Arthur J. Venezia

Pastor

March, 2010

As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of St. Paul of the Cross this year, I am very aware of how much prayer, sacrifice, trust, and hard work went into creating the parish we see today.  They say that those who love - remember.  They remember such things as birthdays, anniversaries & jubilees.  Well, I have come to the conclusion that there is a lot of love in St. Paul of the Cross, since there has been a great deal of remembering going on here.

We remember with admiration the 3 pastors who preceded me - Fr. Charles Sullivan, Fr. Alexis Paul, & Fr. Tom McCann.  They were and are men of faith, of vision, & of generosity.  They saw what was needed & inspired the people to make it happen.

We remember many of the priests, deacons and sisters, who consecrated their lives to build up the community of faithful here, instructing and supporting the many ministries at St. Paul's.

We remember the Staff of the parish, who day in and day out use their talents & virtues to plan, coordinate,& administer programs to assist our people in their journey of faith from infants, to youth, to adults, and into life eternal.

And we remember our beautiful and very dear laity.  Some of you here tonight have participated in the parish since its inception in 1970.  You have made St. Paul of the Cross your spiritual home for nearly half a century.  I am here a little over 20 years, and I am grateful to Almighty God I am still serving you as Pastor.

We remember all the events that made possible the construction of our magnificent buildings, especially our church -  we remember the bazaars, the car washes, the flea markets, the pancake breakfasts, the dinner dances, the auctions and raffles, and so many fund drives.

Yes, indeed, there is much to be proud of and much to celebrate this anniversary year.  40 years ago the Lord made a holy & sacred place on Singer Island.

Since then we have come here week after week in hopes of growing in faith & drawing closer to the God who made us.

You built this parish.  Your own hard earned resources made it possible.  Faith in God made it a reality, & faith and sacrifice keeps it going.

We can beam with pride in that we have constructed a parish through which God will continue to nourish his people for many generations to come.

The Catholic faith has a concrete address in this little part of God's great earth.

And as far as I am concerned the high point and joy of being Catholic is in the Eucharist and the joy of being your Pastor is in our life together - from Eucharist to Eucharist, priest and people as one, amazed by the wonder and power of so incredible a gift.

We are grateful.  We remember with love.  We celebrate.
